U&I Teach Program

U&I Teach is an after-school program that aims to empower lesser privileged children and youth to help them stay in school. We provide individual attention to students with a 2:4 teacher-to-student ratio while strictly maintaining our child protection policy. The Program offers 360-degree holistic learning and care, which includes career days, life-skills training classes, access to the library, field trips, life skills training classes, medical camps and counselling.

DIGITIZED LEARNING

Since the pandemic, U&I has worked on digitising lesson plans and creating a digital library of resources that volunteer teachers can access for effective teaching.

HIGH CONNECTIVITY
Volunteers teach students in a 2:5 ratio, using digital devices (laptops, phones, tablets) following our regular curriculum workbooks.

2:4 STUDENT-TEACHER RATIO

With a teacher-student ratio of 2:5, students received focused attention resulting in better learning. We see higher student engagement in small groups, where ideas and creativity multiply two times. Students can learn at their own pace, and the dual-teacher system ensures that learning stays uninterrupted in case of network issues.

TEACHING METHODOLOGY & ONLINE ASSESSMENTS

In partnership with Mindtree Foundation, U&I has developed a student & class tracking portal to ensure students receive a quality education regardless of location. Periodic assessments and weekly feedback loops with key stakeholders ensure classes are effective.

THE TEACH
PROGRAM MODULE

TUITIONS PROGRAM
The main focus of the programme is to help our students achieve satisfactory scores in their school examinations, so they clear their grades and move up the ladder. Tuition centers focus on ensuring that the learning lags of students are identified and strategies are employed to help them build the foundational skills they are lacking.
The subjects taught are Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Commerce and Economics.
ENGLISH PROGRAM
The English program is tailored to the child's learning level based on a pre-assessment that evaluates their listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar. There are two main levels- Pre Primary and Primary.
HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT
Seeks to guide students in developing essential life skills through a 3-6 hour programme implemented in tandem with their academic classes.

COUNSELING
Support students to grow holistically and be well-rounded individuals.
We partner with professional counsellors to deliver one-on-one or group sessions to our children.
In 2021-2022, most of our counselling sessions were delivered online.
LIFE-INFLUENCING FUNCTIONAL TRAINING (LIFT)
Lift works towards the transition readiness of young adults for when they leave their shelter homes at the age of 18. The students enter the LIFT program at 15 years of age and begin learning valuable, practical life skills to equip them for the real world. LIFT aims to assist these students throughout their education until they earn middle-class income through different programs.
READING PROGRAM

Weekly guided reading sessions are conducted at the centers with the help of library books.

We have a virtual library which provides books for students with different levels of reading styles. We have 0-5 reading levels - read to me, read with help, shared reading, read alone, and advanced readers.
